After fighting fleas all summer, make sure you continue to protect your home throughout the winter. Because the combination of central heating, carpets and mild weather enables fleas to thrive during the colder months too and become an unwelcome and difficult to evict visitor to your home
Flea Facts
For every 5 fleas that you see on your pet there will be 95 in your home environment as eggs, larvae and pupae;
Once off the host animal an adult flea can only survive for one to four days but the pupae and larvae can be around for over three months;
Adult fleas reproduce very quickly and each female may lay up to 50 eggs per day or an incredible 1500 in a lifetime.
The flea acts as the intermediate host for the tapeworm and any cat with fleas is likely to also have a tapeworm infestation.
Fleas can jump up to 200 times their height. This is the same as you jumping the Eifel Tower!
Some animals are allergic to flea bites and may suffer extreme discomfort.
To ensure that your pet and home is protected against the flea, continue to apply treatment at the prescribed interval all year round.
Flea treatments may be by means of spot-on vials, sprays, injection or tablets. To discuss the most effective treatment for your pet and for expert advice contact your veterinary surgery and ask about a free flea check.
